I hope you all had a good week, and if it was not one of your best ones, what did you do to feel better?
On those days when I am feeling upset or going through a tough patch there is no better cure than a chat with my best friend (might also include a glass of wine😉 ), a jog to clear my mind and music…
To these I must add going round the shops to a busy place, not necessarily shopping (even although some retail therapy sometimes does it;). People and a busy spot give me energy.
And like the song goes
When you’re alone, and life is making you lonely You can always go Downtown When you’ve got worries, all the noise and the hurrySeems to help, I know Downtown Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty…
Some people prefer going to a spot away from everything to reflect. In my case, I prefer first clearing my mind and go round the shops andsitting at a coffee shop listening to the soundof a city.
January can be a tight month financially and retail therapy might be difficult to apply;) If I am windowshoppingI go round the shops for ideas on howI can mix the differentclothesI have to create outfits… try it out! And then if you want to get yourself a lil pressie… go for a lipstick or mascara or something small so as not to break the bank but still gives you the thrill ofshopping…💄🎊
If like me you looove music (I wake up and my music is on!), on one of those bad days I select Downtown and sing and dance to it whilst getting ready to go round the shops… and yes I do then feel a little better…:)
Here’s wishing you a good week ahead and remember chin up and smile!
New year, fresh start and with it come all our self-promises and resolutions. I am not one keen on resolutions, three weeks in, I typically am back into my busy schedule and routine and forget all about what seemed a great idea beginning January. I do however set goals for myself, realistic ones. I do this every year and I do achieve most of them. One of my annual goals is setting the number of books I will read throughout the year, and I always increase the number by one or two books annually. To this this I add another two goals I want to work on and list these down on my mobile notes….lest I forget😉
I read an interesting article on Vogue about fashion resolutions and what the editors of the major fashion magazines vouched to stick to in 2020 with respect to fashion. These varied between shopping only for what is necessary, giving out something one is in possession of when purchasing something new, buying only one or two outfits however only of good quality and the list goes on. I never set myself any fashion resolutions…but after reading this I thought, I should add a goal to my list. So I thought… what is good to do and will also work? I decided to set a monthly budget I intend spending on my clothes, shoes and make-up. This gives me the freedom (to my mind) to shop for anything I want but within a monthly budget I set… let’s see how this goes…🙄 yikes…will I manage this you think? 😉
Always ask yourself these questions before you actually purchase an item of clothing:
How many times will I realistically wear this?
Can I mix and match it with different outfits?
Does the price make sense for this piece? (If spending a substantial amount, is it a classic you will make use of or something which will be out of fashion in a couple of months?)
The struggle I will find with this goal is when it comes to shoes… I find it hard to resist when I see a pair I fall in love with, which is quite often…😂
So ladies let me know what fashion resolutions you will set? Let me know in the comments 🙂
I have some ideas for my 2020 blog posts, let me know of any particular ones you would like me to write about.
As 2019 is coming to an end, I look back at my first year of fashion blogging 🙂 Thank you to all those who followed me on the blog and also to those who participated and assisted in the photo shoots.
As you know the intention of the blog is to reach out to all women of different shapes and sizes… we are all different and unique and we can all look good! I hope I managed to pass on this message 😊 I hope that through my blog I gave the confidence to at least one person to feel good in their body… if I managed that I am super happy!
Let us discover together what 2020 will bring with it in the world of fashion and let’s see how we can make it work for all of us!
Tonight whether you are staying in with your sweatpants and hoodies or going out for the night in you sparkly outfits… remember that the best way to feel good is being yourselves. Wear that smile, chin up and remember you are beautiful!
December is here and this is the season for after work drinks, parties, balls, gala nightsand celebrations, but this also means that we need the right outfit for these occasions….what to wear, what to wear?!I will be outlining a few ideas for you to create different looks for this festive season.
This all depends on the event you will be attending. If you are heading for drinks with your friends after work but you don’t have to time to change, grab a pairof jeans andhigh heeled shoes perhaps with some sparkle and voila’ you are all set for a night out with your friends.
During this time of the year it is good to invest in party tops, as these can be worn with jeans, tailored trousers, midi and miniskirts; they are the most versatile addition to your wardrobe and you can also enjoy these not only during the festive season but as eveningwear during the rest of the year.
Work Christmas parties ….this is always a huge headache for a number of people. You want to look good and stylish yet not want to walk in with short skirts or backless tops, you need to have the right outfit and not look boring. The best thing to do is to keep it simple yet with a little more chic ‘oomph’ than usual. Sleek black pants, glittery blouse together with the right accessories. Go for A line skirts or a midi dressesand dress it up with glittery block heel shoes.
These are the fun outfit parties, where you can up the glitter and sparkle to the normal week end look. Enjoy experimenting with such outfits and feel glamourous. This does not mean that you are restricted to wearing dresses full of sequins – you can play around with your outfits and look fabulous. Include gold and silver which are considered to be neutralcolourswith your outfits,Youcan wear you black trousers and top and wrap a large gold scarf around your waist. If you are comfortable with shine and sparkles go forit ,however go plain with the bag and shoes otherwise you will lookoverdone.
Balls and Gala nights
Red carpet look for the night and go for fully blown diva look withlong dresses. Thestylewill depend very much on your shape. A–linedresses or fish tail styles – you have to try these on to see what best suits your figure. I have also seen ladies wearing tuxedos paired up with a cool pair of high heeled stilettoes and oh did they make an entrance…
Depending on the style of the outfit you then accessorize accordingly,Ifyour outfit isfull ofsparkle then go for plain accessories. If on the other hand your outfit is simple you can afford to dazzle up with accessories including some fun hair clips and bands which are available. Beaded hairbands are very much in fashion and they do give that extra sparkleto your outfit. Faux fur is also very much in, add a stole or cape with a fur collar and you have elegance par excellence! You can add some shine to your make up and experiment with some bold lipcolours.
Finally, as I always say the best way to look good is feeling comfortable and confident in what you are wearing …wear the smile, chin up and here’s wishing you a fantastic festive season.
I did not post much these past couple of weeks as I was travelling on work and also fitting in rehearsals to a performance I will be participating in… Promesas a flamenco show.
This is a fashion blog, however flamenco is another passion of mine and I would like to invite all the readers of this blog to this flamenco production. The Director of the school Ingrid Sciberras, together with the choreographers, put their heart and soul to put up this production. All the students and company members work hard and dance with love and passion as we all respect this art form.
Flamenco is about the song, dance and rhythm, and it gives us dancers the opportunity to express our feelings and share them on stage with the audience. The show will also have live music and singing.
The story is based on a short story written in 1932 by Maltese author S. W. Agius entitled ‘Sivigliana’. It is a story of betrayal and love and most of all thepassion for flamenco!
As Isaid this is indeed a fashion blog, andthe show is also a feast for your eyes…. the costumes are beautiful…. colours, frills, flowers, fans and thebeautifulSpanish shawls. Come and see foryourselves…😊
There will be a total of three performances, two of which will be held at Salesian Theatre, Sliema on Saturday 23 November at 8pm and Sunday 24 November at 7.30 pm. There will be a thirdperformance in Gozo on Saturday 7 December at 8pm at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre, Rabat, Gozo. Both venues are provided with ample parking spaces.

Today’s blog post will address a matter which I feel is essential to look good in any outfit….. wearing the right underwear! Ladies, a few pointers of what I believe is essential:
It is not for the world to see – they are called undergarments for a reason
Ensure you know your size
choose the right underwear for your body shape
Clearly, cotton is the best fabric from a health perspective. It is breathable fabric and causes less allergies. It does not mean that we cannot wear silk, lace or satin underwear. Ensure you alternate between the various materials and wearing cotton more frequently. Today the variety in the market is vast.
Keep in mind that some fabrics will show and if you wear lacey underwear beneath a cotton t-shirt or linen trousers. Be mindful of this when choosing what outfit you are wearing.
Getting the size right
This is key! If it is a size too big, it ends up sagging or rolling. On the other hand wearing underwear in a smaller size looks absolutely horrendous with bulges under your clothes…. and we don’t want that! 😊
Measure yourself and go for your actual size, it needs to feel like you are not wearing anything. This applies also for your bra size. Today most lingerie shops offer to measure you and help you finding the right size. You will look good in your right size and also, having the wrong size can cause harm.
We all have different body shapes and alas, we are not all Victoria Secret models..;-) But that’s ok….. today we are blessed with shops, both physical stores and online shops which offer a wide selection.
You know your bodies, so choose the underwear keeping this in mind. I personally never manage to get rid of the love handles at the side of my waistline…. so French cut underwear will amplify these so I avoid it. If you have a tummy and want to conceal it 😉 go for wide waist underwear and not low waisted. If you are curvier at the hips, avoid thin waist bands.
Personally I believe the best underwear is the seamless one. It does not show beneath the clothes which is exactly the point 🙂 if you think having lacey underwear showing beneath your outfit is sexy…. think again…. it’s tacky!
Make sure you have nude colour underwear in your wardrobes… it is a must! It is the safest colour as it won’t show under most outfits…. especially under white garments. There is the misconception that you wear a white bra and pants beneath white clothes…. they actually show…. go for nudes!
Having said all this…. we can have some fun playing around with colours too:) obviously be careful what to wear coloured underwear with…. remember it should not show 🙂 Most women get a feel good factor by wearing matching lingerie and experimenting with styles and colours … and why not?! Just be mindful of all the tips above 😊
There are a number of shops locally to purchase your underwear, and a lot also online…. Victoria secrets deliver to Malta…( and they do have sizes other than a size zero;) Bravissimo online is great for women with heavier busts…. a great selection to choose from. Next online also have underwear and provide a selection by size and shape, so it is actually of great help!
Now that we had the first rainfall of the season, I thought I should put the spotlight on a staple item to have in one’s wardrobe…. the trench coat. This waterproof coat comes in very handy at this time of the year, and is also a fashion must have 🙂
The trench coat dates back to pre World War One used by army officers. The name actually caught on during World War One as it was used in the trenches. One of the first manufactures of the trench coat…. was Burberry – still one of their most popular items to this very day! And on my wish list to purchase…😉
This piece was also made famous and became popular in the fashion world thanks to its use in movies, worn mainly by detectives, gangsters and femme fatales. Humphrey Bogart wore a trench coat in the movie The Maltese Falcon and also in Casablanca. Warren Beatty wore it in the movieDick Tracy. Leading ladies such as Marlene Dietrich and Audrey Hepburn wore the trench coat in some of the movies they starred in. One cannot forget Audrey Hepburn in the last scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s…. she most definitely helped to make the trench coat a timeless piece.
Today the trench coat is a must have in one’s wardrobe. It is not only convenient to have during the wet season, but also a fashion statement. The traditional beige double breasted trench coat is available for both males and females, however there are many different variants one finds today. The evolution of the trench coat made it a very versatile piece and one can choose to purchase this in different colours and styles.
The great thing about the trench coat is that it can be worn with smart or casual outfits. For the ladies, you can dress this with boots, heels, flats or trainers and it always looks great! In the case of the gents, it pairs up nicely with smart suits and also with a casual outfit together with a pair of Chelsea boots or trainers.
Today you can find so many different versions, not only in different colours and textures but also in different lengths and depending on the shape of your body you can adapt this to suit your figure! if you are tall you can afford to have a long trench coat, on the other hand if you are petite go for a shorter version, just under the hips. The colour and texture you choose will depend on whether you want a more serious/smart look or a fun one.
Is the trench coat an item you have in your wardrobe? Are you all for the traditional style, or do you prefer the modern variants? Let me know!
So really…. sun is shining and thinking about Autumn here on our little island….?! The answer is yes…:) I do start looking out for pieces from the Autumn/winter collection. A few shops have already started displaying their new collections and I get very excited to see what’s in store for next season 😀
Personally, I love neutral colours for the colder months: grey, camel, beige, tan…. you get the drift 🙂 I then like pairing outfits in neutral colours with striking coloured shoes, or a busy patterned bag. Have a look at this all grey outfit with a red bag.
Having said that, last week I went to one of my go to shops and the shop assistant who knows my taste came to me with an acquamarine/green dress from the new collection. I tried it on and fell in love with it, colour and all! Here is a pic, however I will post another one when I get to wear it 😉
Leather is very in this season, mixed with different material. Dresses with leather panels at the sides or the border of a dress in leather… I like this mix personally. I find leather jackets very versatile and I like having different styles in different colours in my wardrobe… A particular one caught my eye, a blazer style leather jacket…. smart yet edgy!
Similar to what we have seen for the Summer months, florals will be in even for Autumn/winter time, obviously with toned down colours. Long dresses and skirts in florals for that romantic feel… Have a look at some of these lovely pieces.
Pleats are still very in also, thick woolen skirts in pleats which you can wear with long boots… so comfortable and stylish! Have a look at this skirt I bought from a lovely boutique in Naxxar, Verve. This skirt can be worn with long boots for a casual look or court shoes for a smarter look😉
If you are concerned about the waistline when it comes to pleats, make sure the elastic or waistband is wide at the waist..😉
For the autumn months you can also invest in jumpsuits, there are soooo many different styles you can opt for. You can then grab your leather jacket in the Winter and keep on wearing such outfits for the colder months.
Looking forward to the fresh weather to start wearing the new pieces.
What is your must have for the colder months…. let me know?
I find that as much as I like preparing the outfit I will be wearing the following day, the ootd depends a lot on my mood. So as much as I like being organized and planning my outfits…. my mood may affect the outfit I decide to wear.
Adding some positive vibe
Some people tell me that if they are feeling a little upset or demotivated they tend to just grab what’s comfy and an easy to wear outfit and go with it. I actually do the opposite…. I put effort and time to plan my outfit when I feel a little negative or demotivated and go with an ensemble in which I will feel confident and gives me the positivity I need. It works with me…;) You may be asking, what kind of outfit gives me that vibe…? It could range from a tailored dress to a pair of trousers paired with a blazer, but the outfit will always include heels (of course!) and a smart bag 😁 I take the time to apply my make-up and ensure my hair looks tidy and neat. Then chin up and breathe in and I face the day ahead with a more positive vibe. Of course, to each his own… see what works for you. Sometimes you feel you want to add colour or do the actual opposite and wear your lbd… I believe the trick is to take the time and think, find out how the outfit you will wear can help you in changing your mood 🙂
There are times when my mood is a fun one and I decide to go for a more colourful outfit, especially when going out for the night. As much as I love classic jewellery I did buy some fun costume jewellery, like my desigual banana ear rings and a mouse brooch which I sometimes add to a serious outfit. Apart from adding colour and wearing quirky or fun jewellery, I sometimes also experiment with the hairstyle – half hanging style with a bun at the top or adding thin braids.
If I wake up to the sound of Metallica, then off I go with a mood for blacks, purples, ripped jeans and leather pants or jackets…;) I actually never go fully blown rock mode in my attire, however I do love mixing elements which are typically associated with rock and metal to my outfits… when I am in that mood. Ripped jeans paired up with a body suit, open booties and a leather jacket. Add some dark aubergine coloured lipstick and rock on for the day!
I am told I am not a very romantic person….. boooo:/ In all honesty I don’t like being very soppy and having grand displays of affection in public….however I do have my own ways of being romantic… this sometimes is also reflected in my ootd 🙂 So what would qualify as a romantic outfit…? To me it’s florals, maxi dresses, ruffles, flowy dresses….. add beaded hairbands and flowers to your hair or pull your hair to the side in a long thick braid or let your curly hair down… and voila, c’estromantique 😍
These are just a few moods I find myself in and how I adjust my outfits depending on how I feel. So next time you meet me try guessing what mood I woke up in ..:-p Let me know how you decide what outfit you will be wearing for the day…. is it dependent on your mood or do you just plan in advance…?
I had a few requests to write about what to wear to the office… and I have been mulling over this blog post for quite a while. This is a tricky one 😉 Nowadays officewear is not necessarily formal as it used to be in the past so it can get a little bit complicated, however I believe there are certain principles which always apply. Read on and let me know whether you agree 🙂 By the way this post is for females and males …😊
First things first, read your office dress code. All offices typically have one, so read through it and follow the rules, that is a must. Some places require a more formal dress code whilst others, such as gaming companies allow for a more relaxed attire. Understand what image the company you work for wants to portray and go with it.
Let’s start off with some basic principles…. irrespective of whether the dress code is formal or not, in my view the following are no nos :
Low cut blouses
Transparent tops with underwear showing
Low cut loose trousers with underwear showing (rapper style;)
White socks with black shoes…🤦♀️
Socks and sandals
Formal office dress code
If the company/firm you work for goes for a more formal attire, here are a few tips to make your outfits more exciting and cool. I ll start off with the ladies 🙂
You do not have to wear suits… stiff suits are actually not that in anymore unless you go for a male type suit with either a waist coat or a tie and brogues with hair neatly pulled back and you have a cool and polished look!
Invest in basics, such as black and cream trousers, with which you can match different coloured shirts or blouses. Another must is having a couple of blazers, there are soooo many different styles. Go for a a navy or white for the summer and black and camel for the winter months. You can mix and match with shift dresses, skirts and pants… easy does it 😉
Make sure you own a pair of nude pumps, with heels or flats that’s up to you… but they always come in handy. If you want to jazz up your outfit buy a pair of bright coloured shoes and pair up with a back dress… cool!
Bag and shoes need not match…. I promise you this is passé. They need to blend together but not be “the set” piece 🙂 black shoes paired with a burgundy handbag which has black handles… and voila different, stylish and smart.
I love adding scarves or brooches to my outfits. You can wear these in so many different ways, but I will dedicate a separate blog post to that and how you can add some fun to your outfits.
Non-formal dress code
If you can go to work in jeans and t-shirts, go for it. Personally I prefer a t shirt neatly tucked in the jeans or a polo shirt paired to a denim skirt and smart trainers to go with them.
T-shirt dresses are also a good investment for the summer months, paired up with flat sandals and a big tote bag. You can find these dresses in different colours and if you have a pair of silver flat sandals, these are considered to be a neutral colour so go for it!
So they say men have it easy, no? Just wear a suit. Yes, however there are different accessories and ways of pairing suits so read on…:)
Find out whether you need to wear a tie at your place of work. If not, today you can wear the pocket square handkerchief… very in. If you must wear a tie, today there are so many different styles and colours that you can make these fun!
Waistcoats look cool and smart, however these do not suit everyone. Do get an honest opinion, from someone you trust. Also, you do not need a three piece suit, the waistcoat does not need to match your jacket and trousers, it can be of a different colour, clearly it needs to blend in however!
Shoes and belts need to match in formal attire, that is a rule I won’t budge on 😉 Personally I like brown shoes with blue suits, which is the more Italian style. Black is acceptable but not my favourite 😉
You want to go real smart, wear cuff links with your shirt… there are formal ones or some fun ones. Go by your mood and jazz up your suit 😉
During the summer months opt for light coloured suits, they still look very smart and provide you with a change to your everyday blues and greys which are very popular with suits.
Invest in casual pants in navy, cream and grey and mix and match with different t-shirts, polo shirts or shirts. Loose trousers are no longer in, so go for the straight leg type or if you are a little bit more adventurous you can opt for skinny trousers (again these don’t suit everyone…)
If wearing the polo shirt or t-shirt from the inside you can wear a thin belt and in this case if you are pairing it up with casual shoes such as deck shoes, moccasins or trainers – the belt and shoes need not be the same colour but clearly need to match 😉
In the winter months you can wear jeans and sweaters, together with Chelsea boots or trainers. If you are daring, go for some different colours for the sweaters, maybe a couple of bright ones to brighten up the damp and grey season…!
I hope you enjoyed this post, just a few ideas to make your office wear a little more exciting 🙂
